Report: CM Punk to Appear on Hometown Edition of Raw

In an update on CM Punk’s current status with the WWE, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there is strong talk that CM Punk will possibly return to the WWE on tomorrow’s edition of WWE RAW in Chicago, Illinois. Meltzer went on to state that despite the news, he himself is not 100% positive that Punk will be at the show, however all sources he’s spoken to are stating that it’s 100% certain.

For those wondering what happens to the WrestleMania 30 card if CM Punk returns, there has been talk that Punk will face Triple H at the event, meaning that Daniel Bryan would be entered into the WWE Championship picture, however another idea pitched was for Bryan vs. Triple H to happen and for Punk to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in April.

Punk hasn’t been featured on any WWE event since the January 26th WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view after telling Vince McMahon prior to WWE RAW the following night that he was “going home”. It will be interesting to see if the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” returns in his hometown tomorrow night.

If it does turn out to be true, then it will be the conclusion of yet another bemusing work from the WWE, or so you would think. Perhaps Punk legitimately walked out of the company following the Royal Rumble, as was suggested. However, the likelihood of Vince McMahon or someone of authority within the company persuading Punk to come back seems remote at best.

It looks like Punk's spell away from WWE TV was done specifically to ramp up interest in WrestleMania XXX, which is now just a few weeks away.

Punk's return would be a welcome piece of news for WWE executives, who would have had to prepare themselves for an almighty backlash in Chicago on Monday if Punk didn't show up. There has already been aTwitter account created to try and "Hijack Raw," and the thought of Punk not being on a Raw in Chicago sets the scene for anarchy.

If he does emerge unannounced at any point throughout the show, it is sure to generate an absolutely massive reaction from the crowd. Thoughts immediately jump back to 2011, when Punk announced he was "leaving" the company with the WWEChampionship—after winning it in Chicago from John Cena.

That was one of the biggest works the company has staged in some time—however, he returned just a couple of weeks later. With Punk being away from the company for well over a month now, it appears this whole work has been an attempt to top the previous one.

One thing is for certain: It makes Monday's edition of Raw a must-see show—and the excitement and anticipation of Punk's arrival will be absolutely huge.
